have a seat

Hi! Thanks so much for your interest in Rooted Waves Wellness. I'm happy you're here.  My name is Brienne Wapenyi, and I am a licensed independent clinical social worker. I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the lasting impacts of trauma and the challenges that arise in relationships.

My approach in therapy is trauma-informed, relational, and rooted in deep respect for your story. I believe real healing happens through authentic connection, where you can show up as your whole self and feel truly seen. Therapy can feel natural and human, like we're sitting together having an honest conversation, even when we are exploring really hard things. Together, we will create a space that is both soft and steady, a place where you can land and explore your strengths and growth edges. I'm also someone who believes in honesty and directness; I'll gently call things out when it serves your growth, always with care and intention.  My goal is to walk alongside you with honesty, warmth, and respect as we work toward meaningful change.

my
Story

a little about me

My journey in social work began the first time I sought out my own therapist. I was sort of stuck in a life holding pattern, unsure what direction to go. I felt moved by my experience in therapy and I remember thinking "Wow, I think I can help people like this too." That year, I applied to the University of South Carolina's MSW program, packed everything I owned in my little Ford Focus, and took the first step toward what would become my life passion. I graduated in 2014, and moved back to Massachusetts to serve the communities I grew up in.

When I am not in my practice, I spend my free time with my family and two cats. I am a book worm at heart- my goal this year is to read 40 (and I am currently at least 3 books behind schedule if we are being honest!). I'm a lover of cozy spaces, slow mornings, and strong coffee. I am endlessly curious about people's stories and the human experience in general. I take my role as a therapist seriously, but I also believe healing can be found in a big belly laugh.
